Seedling First Aid

I had to perform some seedling first aid today, and I really hope it doesn't backfire on me. All week the geraniums have been growing really well - too well. In one of the little seedling

starter rolls, there are four seedlings who are all starting to develop true leaves. I know you're not supposed to pot up the seedlings into a bigger pot until their leaves are bigger and roots are more established, but I was really afraid the four seedlings' roots would get tangled if I left them to get any bigger, so I decided to take them out of the roll, separate them, and put them each in slightly larger pots. I really hope this won't kill them, but after thinking about it all week, I decided that it was something I needed to do because best case scenario they survive and I have four lovely geranium plants. Worst case scenario they die but I've learned a valuable lesson about how young is too young. Also, it's probably early enough in the season that I could plant some more seeds if these seedlings don't survive this.

Also, my marigolds, which we've discussed before and have been on their way out for a while. One of the little marigold cups stopped responding to water and sun and wilted

overnight so I threw it out because I don't think they can be saved. However, the other cup of seedlings, after I watered them this morning, they did respond and stood back up so in the afternoon I repotted them too. One of them is so leggy that even when I repotted it, it's still quite tall and weak, so let's see how they do. In addition, I also planted two more little cups of marigolds - basically to start again - and see if March is a better time to plant them.

So, what was originally just going to be an update on how everything is doing 2 weeks after planting turned into an emergency operation, but let's see if all goes well. Keep your fingers crossed.
